And I'm off! Today's the day. Tired but incredibly excited to get this summer rolling! Thankful for my sister who woke up at 2:45 to drop me off at the Kansas City airport—couldn't have done it with out her. I have a whole day of traveling ahead of me but couldn't be more ready for it. I am also so thankful for everyone who has helped me get here! With only a few months of planning I am finally able to say "today's the day."

Hi everyone! This summer I have the opportunity to be an intern in Ecuador with Serve Globally. This is such an incredibly opportunity that I get to take part in. During the time in Ecuador I will be helping with long term earthquake recovery! This earthquake hit Ecuador's coast 2 years ago in, 2016. I will have the chance to work in Manta alongside the Covenant church that is already there. The first 2 weeks of the trip will be spent in Ecuador's capital, Quito. I will be staying with Chris and Jenny Hoskins who are currently missionaries serving in Quito. The following 6 weeks I will be headed down to Manta to live with a host family, who are involved with the Covenant church there. I am so excited to see where this opportunity takes me and hope to learn so much from the time abroad!
Thank the Lord that spring break has come to save us from this terribly cold weather. I was so ready to get my ghostly white legs back into the sun. For spring break, I was able to go back to my favorite vacation spot -- San Diego, CA. Seriously whats not to love about this place, it has everything I could ever ask for; sandy beaches, bustling downtown farmers market, over-the-top acaí bowls, beautiful friendships, and endless amounts of happiness. Throughout this trip I was fortunate to travel with my best friend there and back. Traveling with someone else is always more enjoyable than traveling alone! While I was in San Diego I was able to see all my lovely Point Loma friends, go to Joshua Tree National Park, and lounge on the beach. Thankful that even though long distance is hard, it's provided me with a pretty great spring break destination. I don't know what came over me but I jumped on a feeling that was pressuring me for so long. I was stuck in a rut. All the feels of winter sadness taking over me. So I splurged... I bought the golden ticket. I flew myself out to San Diego to go visit my boyfriend Zach. I decided against telling Zach that I was coming to see him, since this is something I've never done before. With the help from a few friends, we pulled it off. Long distance is truly one of the most difficult experiences I've ever been through. Long distance isn't something that I thought I would do when I was little, and something I didn't think I would be able to survive when we started talking about college. Here we are. Pulling it off. San Diego treated me so well. This was a short trip, but incredibly worth it. I was able to make a small video capturing the moment of the surprise as well as a variety of the other fun things we were able to do together. |
